It's finally here, the 10th annual Milwaukee Empty Bowls (MEB) event this
Saturday, October 11th. Please join us for one of Milwaukee's most unique
fundraisers and give back to your community. NEW this year....purchase a
limited quantity MEB t-shirt for just $10 and thanks to our generous friends
at Continental Savings Bank and Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, all
proceeds to go to our five non-profit groups that deal with hunger on a
grass roots level.
Have you ever seen a pottery throw a bowl on the wheel? You can this
Saturday and to help us understand why we do this event and how we help
those in need, the recipient organizations will be available at the event to
meet and greet you. Don't forget about the raffle...we have six terrific
packages to select from. See below for pictures of the packages and their
descriptions.
We have been gathering bowls all year in preparation for our 10th
Anniversary. Many people ask where do the bowls come from...well they come
from more than 45 individual potters, 15 schools/universities, and 20
organizations/businesses... the Annual Bowl-a-Thon at Murray Hill Pottery
this spring, from the pottery classes at the John C. Cudahy YMCA, from a
"Girls Nite Out" glazing party at Art Trooper in Mequon, to UWM's Girl
Volleyball team.....these bowls come from all over the place! We will have
more than 2000 bowls available at the event. And remember, we don't put all
the bowls out at once so even if you get there at 1:30pm, you're sure to get
a beautiful bowl and a bowl of soup. With all those bowls, there will
certainly be one that interests you. Be sure to visit the donors page for
the full list of people, groups and businesses that have donated bowls this
year.
And to whet your soup whistle, here are some of the soups that will be
available this Saturday: Outpost-Vegetarian Chili, Cempazuchi-Sopa Milpera,
Caterina's-Cream of Chicken & Wild Rice, Saz's-Lentil with Andouille
Sausage, Quad Graphics-Cream of Mushroom, Venturia Market-Beef Barley and
MATC's-Gazpacho...just to name a few and don't forget we have bread. For a
complete listing, go to the donors page.
Live music...have we got talent. Our musical line is as follows...
10:45am - 11:15am: Kostia
11:15am - 11:30am: Michael Henszey - www.thebystanders.com
11:30am - 12:15pm: Carmen Nickerson - www.carmennickerson.com
12:15pm - 1:00pm: Mary Karlzen - www.marykarlzen.com
1:00pm - 1:45pm: Jamie Brace & Joe Gorman - www.jamiebrace.com
A parting note: times are tight right now....we understand. This event is
organized by volunteers and runs on almost a zero budget, which means time,
services and products are donated at no cost so we can raise all the money
we can to help others. Let's not be an economic statistic this year of lower
profits. Let's beat our 2007 proceeds of $36,000....Please attend and help
us share the word about this event. If you have never attended, you won't
regret making the trip. It's a wonderful, feel-good event full of caring
people and if you're coming back....thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
It will be great to see you again.
Thank you for your time and visiting our website.
Peace.
