When you purchase bowls at Empty Bowls this Saturday, October 8, you are purchasing beautiful handmade pottery…or you’re buying whimsical kids’ bowls…or maybe both. Your empty bowl symbolizes the hunger we all are trying to combat and defeat in the greater Milwaukee area.

But think of another symbolic act when you buy bowls. Many people buy them as gifts – filling them with treats, sweet-smelling potpourri or whatever strikes their fancy – and then give them to those they love.

Buying a bowl to help stop hunger in our community is great. You could say that passing it along as an expression of love is even greater!

In the past week, The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel featured articles on the statistics of rising poverty and, therefore, the sky-rocketing needs of homeless shelters, food programs and food pantries.

Empty Bowls is a defiant and compassionate response to our current economic woes. It combines many incredibly talented volunteers – chefs, artists, event volunteers and our host, MATC – to make an impact and help address local food pantries’ and programs’ real and ongoing needs.

Join us on Saturday, October 8 for a day of beautiful art, great soup and community spirit!

Want to make and donate a bowl to our October 8th event? Once again, Art Trooper is making it easy and fun for you to do so!

Put together a group of people and give Art Trooper in Mequon a call to reserve a time. For $12, you paint a bowl and they will fire them and make sure we have them to put out on our tables at the event.

To date, Art Trooper has supplied 400 bowls to our annual events. Thanks to this great place and to the many families, scout troops, civic groups, companies, and youth groups who paint the bowls there.

Call (414) 351-1855 and ask for Ann or Andi to reserve your spot.
