The Bay View Community Center is a private non-profit organization that has been serving families and individuals in southeastern Wisconsin for 29 years. The Center’s mission is to provide programs that develop the individual, provide support and strengthen families. The Center’s Food Pantry is open 2 days and 1 evening every week and serves over 400 people per month.

The Gathering

The Gathering prepares and serves 98,000 free meals annually at three locations to Milwaukee’s hungry and homeless. Founded in 1981, the work is done by over 1500 volunteers each year. Mental health, medical and legal assistance and supply distributions are also provided. The grant will be used in their Breakfast Program serving free hot meals to Milwaukee’s hungry and homeless, Monday through Friday mornings at St. James Episcopal Church.

Since 1987, Hope House has served the homeless, the hungry, and those in poverty with resources for housing, nutrition and wellness, food, and service referral and linkage. The grant will be used to purchase food during the summer months to support the United Southside Food Pantry located on-site at Hope House. Last year, 3335 households, more than 9200 people, received emergency food distributions.

Repairers of the Breach is the only daytime homeless refuge and resource center in the metro Milwaukee area. They provide healing, empowering resources, and help to forge lasting solutions. The program begins with the basics, a hot midday meal, access to toilets, free showers, and free clothing distribution. Repairers provide a continental breakfast and a hot lunch six days each week to an average 130 men and women each day. That is 24,000 meals.

St. Ben’s Community Meals

St. Ben’s Community Meal is a Capuchin Franciscan ministry founded in 1970. The meal is served six nights a week, Sunday through Friday. There are 75 sponsor groups from the Milwaukee area, representing a variety of faith traditions, that prepare, transport and serve the meals. In 2008 102,700 meals were served for a daily average of 339 meals per night.

Part of St. Catherine Catholic Church Congregation, the on-site food pantry serves 2500 people during the year. For over 25 years, the pantry has served neighborhood residents from Sherman Blvd. to 60th St. and Keefe Ave. to North Ave. Each Saturday from 9:30 to 11 a.m., visitors to the food pantry are provided with a three day supply of nutritious food, information about the Share Program and local meal sites. Neighbors may come to the pantry every four weeks. Those in need are not turned away.
